Laser Cut Quilts and FlexiFuse - The Origin Story! #madewithflexifuse

Andrew, co-founder, had a childhood dream of owning a laser, so back in 2012, he and Madi trekked down to Las Vegas to purchase one, not entirely sure what they'd do with it once it was home! Shortly after acquiring the new and mysterious machine, Andrew's mother (and owner of a lovely quilt shop in Idaho), Rena, asked if they could cut fabric. Andrew shrugged his shoulders and got to work!

After a week of pyrotechnic displays and an apartment that smelled like roasted glue and charcoaled fabric, he figured it out! Local quilt shops started to request that they laser cut their patterns. Andrew ran the laser part-time until in July of 2016, he decided to jump headlong and full-time into Laser Cut Quilts.

They provide custom laser cutting services for quilt shops, along with their own line of wholesale laser-cut quilt kits and patterns. As they've grown, they've continued to expand their capabilities — by developing their own brand of lightweight premium fusible, FlexiFuse.

FlexiFuse started with frustration.

We’d tried every fusible web out there—seriously, all of them. But nothing met our standards. As perfectionist quilters, we were tired of needle gumming, weak bonds, uneven coverage, and fusibles that fell off before we even made it to the sewing machine.

We started wondering… is the perfect fusible even possible?

Turns out, it is—but we had to make it ourselves.

After lots of testing, tweaking, and stitching, we created FlexiFuse—a fusible web with smooth, consistent coverage, no needle gumming, great durability, and just the right softness. We put it through strength, chemical, and user tests to make sure it performed. Then we took it to Quilt Market in 2018, and thousands of quilters stitched with it on the spot. They loved it—and we weren’t surprised.

Today, FlexiFuse is used by everyday makers, professional quilters, and appliqué lovers alike. We don’t just sell it—we use it. Because it was made by quilters, for quilters.

Happy quilting!
